Round-up: The Bundesliga action kicked off with the usual Friday night, as Hertha Berlin played hosts to Fortuna Düsseldorf, and it was the hosts who triumphed in a 3-1 victory. However, it was the away side who took the lead, and they did so thanks to a penalty from Rouwen Hennings in the 32nd minute. Their lead lasted a mere 5 minutes, as Hertha Berlin equalised in the 37th minute thanks to a goal from Vedad Ibisevic, before they went in front right on the stroke of half-time thanks to Javairo Dilrosun's goal. Then Vladimir Darida scored in the 62nd minute to wrap up a third successive league victory for Hertha Berlin After absolutely trashing Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday in the UEFA Champions League, it was a case of back down to earth with a bump for Bayern Munich, as they suffered their first league defeat of the season in a 2-1 loss at home to Hoffenheim thanks to a brace from Sargis Adamyan. Therefore, Bayern would undoubtedly consider themselves fortunate that Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig played out a 1-1 draw, as Christopher Nkunku cancelled out Kevin Volland's 66th minute strike which had given Bayer Leverkusen the lead. Mainz 05 earned just their second league win of the season as they won 2-1 away to newly-promoted SC Paderborn 07, who it is safe to say have so far struggled on their return to the Bundesliga. Robin Quaison's 8th minute goal gave Mainz the lead, however, this lasted a mere 6 minutes as Paderborn equalised thanks to a goal from Ben Zolinski. Mainz then retook the lead in the 32nd minute thanks to a Daniel Brosinski goal from the penalty spot, and it ultimately proved sufficient as Mainz held on for the victory. Borussia Dortmund were held to a draw for the third successive league match, this time away to SC Freiburg despite having led the match twice. Axel Witsel's second league goal of the season put Borussia Dortmund in front after only 20 minutes, before Luca Waldschmidt equalised for Freiburg in the 55th minute. Achraf Hakimi also bagged his second league goal of the campaign, which put Borussia Dortmund back in front in the 67th minute. A fortnight ago Dortmund drew 2-2 away to Eintracht Frankfurt, with a late own goal costing them the game - and they suffered the same fate here as Manuel Akanji put the ball into his own net in the 89th minute which meant that the two sides would have to take a share of the spoils.

The action on Saturday concluded with an evening kick-off, as Schalke 04 hosted newly-promoted 1.FC Köln, and the away side ultimately salvaged a point thanks to a 90th minute goal from left-back Jonas Hector after Suat Serdar had given Schalke the lead in the 71st minute, and thus this result prevented Schalke from moving to the top of the table. The action on Sunday began with Borussia Mönchengladbach hosting a struggling Augsburg side, and it was the hosts who triumphed thanks to a 5-1 victory which enabled them to move to the top of the table. A goal from Denis Zakaria and a brace from Patrick Herrmann meant that Mönchengladbach raced into a 3-0 lead after only 13 minutes, before they scored a fourth goal in the 39th minute thanks to Alassane Plea. Florian Niederlechner's 80th minute goal did at least give Augsburg a consolation, before Borussia Mönchengladbach wrapped up the scoring in the 83rd minute thanks to Swiss international Breel Embolo. The next match played saw Wolfsburg record a slender 1-0 victory at home to 1.FC Union Berlin thanks to a 69th minute goal from Wout Weghorst. Finally, the action concluded with Eintracht Frankfurt hosting Werder Bremen, in a match where neither side could ultimately be separated. Werder Bremen took the lead after 27 minutes thanks to a goal from former Everton attacking midfielder Davy Klaassen. Sebastian Rode equalised for Eintracht Frankfurt in the 55th minute, before Andre Silva scored what seemed to be a late winner for the hosts in the 88th minute. However, Werder Bremen were awarded a 90th minute penalty which Milot Rashica converted to salvage them a point.
