Premier League season review: Arsenal

In the next of our season reviews, we will be taking a look at Arsenal.

Arsenal

Going into the season, Arsenal seemed to have a lot of problems with injury, most particularly in defence - to the extent that they had to play a makeshift defence against Liverpool in their opening (Chambers and Holding paired together). They went on to lose that match. Of couse the inevitable protests at Arsene Wenger, and this was also in part due to lack of transfer activity. Wenger seemed to address the problems by signing Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez (I think the less said about the latter, the better). They then went on an unbeaten run, which co-incidentally ended when Mustafi got injured. After that it was hugely disappointing for the club, and, despite a late run of 6 wins from 7 games, this was not enough for them to qualify for the Champions League. The fact that they didn't qualify for the Champions League, and, to rub salt in the wounds, Tottenham Hotspur finishing above them, goes down as a major disappointment, and in my opinion, Arsene Wenger's time at the club is up if the club want to move on to the next level (especially given his unwillingness to move with the times and stubbornness in the transfer market), and in the end the season became increasingly overshadowed by protests against Wenger to leave.
