Kimi Raikkonen secured pole position in Monaco, his first since the 2008 French Grand Prix, whilst Sebastian Vettel sealed a front row lockout for the team, their second this season. Meanwhile, Valtteri Bottas qualified in third place, with the Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo in fourth and fifth respectively. Lewis Hamilton qualified only in 14th place, failing to get out of Q2, after he could not set a representative lap time, and on his flying lap at the end of the session, got caught out by yellow flags in sector 3, after Stoffel Vandoorne crashed into the barriers in the swimming pool section.
