Huddersfield Town promoted to Premier League

Huddersfield Town have secured promotion to the Premier League after winning 4-3 on penalties after the game finished in a goalless draw after 120 minutes of action. It is the first time Huddersfield Town have ever reached the Premier League, and marks a return to the top flight after a 45-year absence.

The game was a tight, tense affair with little chances throughout. Huddersfield Town started the better of the two teams, and Kachunga had a good chance to give them the lead, but couldn't convert. Reading hardly created any chances, but after the start, the same can be said of Huddersfield from the rest of the game, or be it they did occassionally threaten on the break, and, if you had to say which team deserved to win, arguably the result is deserved for Huddersfield.

The game then went into extra-time as neither team could find a winner in 90 minutes. Extra-time was just as tight and no winner could be found either, not even a goal could be scored, therefore the match ended goalless, and therefore penalties were going to be required.

Reading went first, and Yann Kermorgant converted. Chris Lowe made no mistake for Huddersfield, and converted his kick. 1-1. Then Danny Williams scored for Reading. 2-1. However, Michael Hefele saw his penalty saved by Reading goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi, this giving the advantage to Reading. Liam Kelly and Nahki Wells both converted for Reading and Huddersfield Town respectively. 3-2. However, Reading defender Liam Moore sent his penalty over the bar, and suddenyl giving Huddersfield Town the chance to restore parity. Chance taken as Aaron Mooy converted to make it 3-3. Next for Reading was Jordan Obita. However, he saw his penalty saved (it was a very good one at that) by Danny Ward, giving Huddersfield match point, as if they converted the next penalty promotion to the Premier League would have been confirmed - the responsibility lay on Chris Schindler's shoulders, and he accepted the responsibility without fail, as Huddersfield Town's place in the Premier League was secured.

We at Zarb times would like to congratulate Huddersfield Town on their success.

Speaking on promotion, Wagner said:

"We tried a lot of small details to bring this club forward - usually you need three or four years to do what we've done.

"I am so happy because when I arrived people said I had no experience, no experience of British football, no experience of players - I always had to fight against that.

"It's proved experience is important but not everything. It's heart and desire.

"We only wanted to play this season to our limits, and now we know where our limit is."

"A lot of the pundits wrote us off before the season.

"Over the season I thought we could do a little bit more, I thought around Christmas when we'd played everyone we had a chance.

"What happened is an unbelievable story - a fairytale."
