Sir Alex Ferguson undergoes surgery

It has been announced that Sir Alex Ferguson was admitted to hopsital today and was operated for a brain haemorrhage. It is understood that the operation has gone well fortunately.

A statement by Manchester United FC on the matter read:

"Sir Alex Ferguson has undergone emergency surgery today for a brain haemorrhage.

The procedure has gone very well but he needs a period of intensive care to optimise his recovery.

His family request privacy in this matter."
