Fulham have secured their return to the Premier League after beating Aston Villa 1-0 in the Championship play-off final at Wembley.

After what was a rather tight start, captain Tom Cairney, who's been Fulham's most influential player this season, gave them the lead in the 23rd minute with a neat finish after an assist from 18-year old Ryan Sessegnon, who was nominated for the PFA Players' Young Player of the Year award, making it the first time ever that someone outside the top division has ever been nominated for the award.

Aston Villa had several penalty appeals which were turned down by referee Anthony Taylor. Villa manager Steve Bruce argued that Fulham defender Ryan Fredericks should have been sent-off for an alleged stamp. Fulham did however, end up down to 10 men after centre-back Denis Odoi was sent off for two yellow cards which made the Whites' task just that little bit more difficult in a half which Aston Villa largely dominated, but it wasn't to be as Fulham held on to seal promotion back to the big time after 4 years away.

On earning his side promotion, manager Slavisa Jokanovic told Sky Sports: "I am so excited for my club, for these supporters. We showed we could follow the style that we followed for the past two years, in this stadium.

I'd have preferred to do the job earlier but, to be promoted at this place in front of these fans, I have to be satisfied.

I'm happy with what my team offered today and how we played our football."

We at Zarb times would like to congratulate Fulham on returning to the Premier League.
