Valtteri Bottas has claimed pole position for the 2018 Austrian Grand Prix, making it his first pole position of the season and his second consecutive pole position in Austria. Lewis Hamilton qualified in second place, making it a Mercedes 1-2. Ferrari drivers Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen qualified in third and fourth place respectively, though the former is under investigation for allegedly impeding Carlos Sainz during the second part of qualifying. The Red Bull drivers of Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo have qualified in fifth and seventh respectively, with them being sandwiched by Romain Grosjean of Haas.
The Mercedes and Red Bull drivers will start tomorrow's race on the super-soft tyres, whilst the Ferrari drivers have elected to start the race on the ultra-soft tyres, which may give them more grip at the start, however, the downside is less durability for the opening stint of the race.
