Sebastian Vettel has claimed pole position for the 2018 German Grand Prix, earning his fifth pole position of the season and the first on his home track since 2010. Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas will start on the front row after setting a time just over 2-tenths slower than Vettel. However, things were not so rosy for Bottas' team-mate Lewis Hamilton, who at the end of the first part of qualifying stopped with a car issue - although he did still make it through to the second part of qualifying, he could take no further part in the session and will be starting from fourteenth place. Vettel's team-mate Raikkonen will start third on the grid for Ferrari, whilst Red Bull's Max Verstappen will be starting in fourth place. Verstappen's team-mate Daniel Ricciardo will be starting from the back of the grid as he has had to take grid penalties due to exceeding the limits on certain engine components.
