Round-up:

The Sky Bet League 1 season got underway today, with all 12 games taking place today. The action began with newly-relegated Sunderland taking on Charlton Athletic, with Sunderland winning 2-1 thanks to a 96th-minute winner from Lynden Gooch. Fellow relegated side Barnsley got off to the best possible start, beating Oxford United by four goals to nil to go top of the early-season table (if you give it any importance at this stage). Things did not go so well for the other relegated side Burton Albion, who lost 2-1 at home to Rochdale.

The promoted teams did not get off to the best of starts however. League 2 champions Accrington Stanley lost 2-0 at home to Gillingham, whilst Luton Town fell to a 1-0 defeat away to Portsmouth. Coventry City also lost, falling to a 2-1 defeat to Scunthorpe United despite going into the lead. The other promoted team, Wycombe Wanderers, did at least get a point at home to Blackpool, in what was the day's only drawn match, which finished 0-0.

The EFL's youngest manager, Michael Collins, got off to the perfect start, guiding Bradford City to a 1-0 win away to Shrewsbury Town, who lost in last season's play-off final and are now led by John Askey after their former manager Paul Hurst departed to Ipswich Town to replace Mick McCarthy. Things did not go so well for another new manager in Joey Barton, whose Fleetwood Town team fell to a 1-0 defeat against AFC Wimbledon.

Meanwhile, both Peterborough United and Walsall started their seasons with 2-1 wins against Bristol Rovers and Plymouth Argyle respectively. Doncaster Rovers also started their season off with a win, beating Southend United 3-2 away from home.
