Valtteri Bottas has claimed pole position for the 2018 Russian Grand Prix after setting a 1:31.387 to achieve his second pole position of the season, just under a tenth-and-a-half faster than Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton, who made a mistake on his final flying lap when he ran wide in turn 7 and lost a chunk of time, after he was fastest of all in the first sector. Ferrari drivers Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen finished in third and fourth respectively, over half a second behind Bottas' time. The Mercedes and Ferrari drivers will all be starting on the ultra-soft tyres for the start of the race, which might mean a little less grip off the start, but being able to go longer in the opening stint.
