Glenn Hoddle admitted to hospital after collapsing

It has been announced that, former England national team manager Glenn Hoddle has been admitted to hospital after he collapsed whilst at the BT Sport studios, on the day of his 61st birthday. Hoddle, was a former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, making 377 appearances and scoring 88 times. He also played for AS Monaco, Swindon Town and Chelsea, making a combined total of 167 appearances, scoring 30 goals. He went on to manage Swindon Town, Chelsea, England - where he led the team to the last 16 of the 1998 World Cup, losing to Argentina 4-3 on penalties when England were denied a legitimate goal and David Beckham was sent off, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

BT Sport presenter Jake Humphrey said the following at the start of today's programme regarding the matter: "Whatever Glenn Hoddle is for you, whether he is one of the best footballers the country has ever produced, a wonderful colleague or a much-loved family member, the outpouring of love and support today has been quite something to behold.

"We at BT Sport add to that and we are standing alongside you Glenn and sending you the very best for a speedy recovery."

Whilst a spokesman for Glenn Hoddle gave the following:

"Earlier today Glenn collapsed at the BT Sport studios.

"He received immediate medical attention on set and was subsequently transferred by paramedics to hospital in London.

"The condition is serious but Glenn is currently receiving specialist treatment and responding well.

"Glenn's family are with him and would like to thank everyone that has sent their support.

"They have also asked for their privacy to be respected at this time."

Our thoughts at Zarb times lie firmly with Glenn and his family, and we wish him a speedy recovery.
