Round-up:
In the early kick-off, Championship side Derby County edged past League 1 Accrington Stanley thanks to a goal from striker Martyn Waghorn, in a match were both teams ended with 10 men on the field, as Daniel Barlaser saw two yellows for Accrington whilst right-back Jayden Bogle got sent-off for Derby. This is the first time Derby have advanced to the last 16 of the competition since 2015.
There were two matches which featured a total of 5 goals, as Manchester City strolled to a 5-0 win against fellow Premier League side Burnley thanks to goals from Gabriel Jesus, Bernardo Silva, Kevin de Bruyne, a Kevin Long own goal and a Sergio Aguero penalty. The other match which featured 5 goals was between Championship side Swansea City and League 1 Gillingham, in a match where Swansea ran out comfortable 4-1 winners to advance to the last 16 of the competition for the second year running. Watford beat fellow Premier League opponents Newcastle United at St James' Park 2-0 thanks to goals from Andre Gray and Isaac Success. Meanwhile, Brighton & Hove Albion and Championship side West Bromwich Albion played out a goalless draw meaning the two sides will face a replay to determine who goes through to the next round of the competition. In a match featuring two teams from the third and fourth tier respectively, Doncaster Rovers of League 1 overcame Oldham Athletic of League 2 thanks to a 2-1 victory.
Wolverhampton Wanderers just about managed to save themselves from suffering a Cup upset after they came back from 2 goals down to draw away to third tier Shrewsbury Town, which will mean that there will be a replay between the two sides. Queens Park Rangers and Portsmouth will also require a replay after the two sides played out a 1-1 draw at Fratton Park. Also, Newport County managed to earn themselves a replay after Matthew Dolan scored a 93rd-minute goal away to Middlesbrough in a match which also ended 1-1.
In one of the Cup upsets of the day, Championship side Millwall beat Premier League side Everton 3-2 after twice coming from behind. Richarlison gave Everton the lead in the 43rd minute thanks to a deflected strike, although goalkeeper Jordan Archer should have probably dealt with the shot better. Lee Gregory equalised for Millwall just before half-time. Then Cenk Tosun restored Everton's lead in the 72nd minute, before Jake Cooper equalised again just 3 minutes later, and in the 94th minute Murray Wallace scored the winner for Millwall, in a match which unfortunately was marred by fans of the two teams fighting outside the ground before the game.
In another Cup upset, one arguably even bigger than that of Millwall, League 1 AFC Wimbledon beat West Ham United 4-2. They raced into a 3-goal lead thanks to Kwesi Appiah goal and a brace from Scott Wagstaff. Lucas Perez and Felipe Anderson did reduce the deficit for the Hammers, before teenager Toby Sibbick sealed the win in the 88th minute.
