Round-up:
After confirming promotion last week with a win over Blackburn Rovers, Norwich City sealed the Championship title after beating Aston Villa 2-1 thanks to goals from Teemu Pukki and Mario Vrancic. The win actually was not needed, as they would have been champions anyway given that already-promoted Sheffield United were held to a 2-2 draw by Stoke City.
Meanwhile, in the battle for the final play-off spot, it was Derby County who secured their place after they beat West Bromwich Albion 3-1 thanks to goals from Martyn Waghorn, Mason Bennett and Harry Wilson from the penalty spot. That result rendered Middlesbrough's 2-0 win over Rotherham United irrelevant, whilst the other team who had a chance (if somewhat unlikely) of making the play-offs, Bristol City, were held to a 1-1 draw by Hull City.
Ipswich Town did at least sign off a miserable season with a victory over 3rd-placed Leeds United despite going down to 10 men and having a penalty against them (which Leeds failed to convert). Bolton Wanderers' dire season ended in a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, though what their future off the pitch holds will be of far more pressing concern. Brentford defender Julian Jeanvier suffered a nasty head injury which meant a 10-minute delay of the match, though it did not deter them as they signed off the season with a comfortable win over Preston North End. Elsewhere, Wigan Athletic signed off their first season back in the Championship with a 1-0 win over Millwall, whilst Reading and Birmingham City played out a goalless draw. Finally, Queens Park Rangers ended their season with a 2-1 victory away to Sheffield Wednesday whilst Blackburn Rovers and Swansea City played out a 2-2 draw. Results: Aston Villa 1 Norwich City 2
