EFL League 1 round-up: Luton Town champions, AFC Wimbledon survive

Round-up: Having had their promotion confirmed during the week following results elsewhere falling in their favour, Luton Town sealed the League 1 title after securing victory over Oxford United, whilst in addition, although it would not have mattered anyway, second-placed Barnsley, who too had their promotion confirmed during the week, lost away to Oxford United having played a large chunk of the match with 10 men.

On the other hand, down at the bottom, Southend United confirmed their survival thanks to a late goal which gave them victory over Sunderland, who will be in the play-offs. AFC Wimbledon were held to a goalless draw by already-relegated Bradford City, but it was enough to keep them up by virtue of superior goal difference over Plymouth Argyle, who suffered relegation despite beating Scunthorpe United, who too had their relegation confirmed. Walsall, who needed quite a few results to fall in their favour to survive, had their relegation confirmed after being held to a goalless draw by Shrewsbury Town. Wycombe Wanderers, who going into today were still at risk (albeit slight) of relegation, signed off their season with a 1-0 victory over Fleetwood Town.

In the battle for the final play-off spot, Doncaster Rovers secured their place in the play-offs after beating Coventry City 2-0, rendering Peterborough United's result irrelevant (they did beat Burton Albion 3-1 but it was not enough to earn them a place in the play-offs). Charlton Athletic jumped up into third place after hammering Rochdale by 4 goals, as Portsmouth were held to a draw by Accrington Stanley.

Meanwhile, Blackpool, whose greatest success this season arguably came off the pitch after getting rid of the Oyston family as owners, signed off their season with a 3-0 defeat at home to Gillingham.
