Daniel Stendel has been sacked as Barnsley manager after only 11 league games, despite having guided the side back to the Championship last season.

Barnsley have announced the sacking of manager Daniel Stendel, with the club lying second bottom in the Championship with just 6 points after 11 matches. Stendel, aged 45, was appointed Barnsley manager in June 2018 following the club's relegation to League 1 on a two-year contract as he replaced previous manager José Morais. During his first season in charge of the club, Stendel managed to guide Barnsley back to the Championship as they finished runners-up in League 1, 3 points behind the champions Luton Town.

A club statement read: "Barnsley Football Club confirms that it has separated from Daniel Stendel with immediate effect. Adam Murray has been appointed caretaker manager."
