Round-up:
The traditional Friday night clash which began the Bundesliga's weekend action saw Hoffenheim host newly-promoted SC Paderborn 07, and it was the hosts who triumphed in a comfortable 3-0 victory. This was thanks to first half goals from Robert Skov, Pavel Kaderabek and Jurgen Locadia, in a result which undoubtedly brought the away side back down to earth after they earned their first league win last weekend at home to Fortuna Düsseldorf.
The action today saw Borussia Mönchengladbach maintain their grip on top spot, as they recorded a 2-1 win away to Bayer Leverkusen thanks to goals from Oscar Wendt and Marcus Thuram, as the hosts were reduced to 10 men in stoppage time after Leon Bailey was shown a straight red card. Bayern Munich, on the other hand, suffered a 5-1 humiliation away to Eintracht Frankfurt as Jerome Boateng was sent off after only 9 minutes. Eintracht Frankfurt then went on to take the lead in the 25th minute thanks to a goal from Filip Kostic, before goals from Djibril Sow, David Abraham, Martin Hinteregger and Goncalo Paciencia sealed a resounding triumph for the hosts. As a result of Bayern's defeat, Borussia Dortmund moved into second place after they recorded a 3-0 triumph at home to Wolfsburg thanks to goals from Thorgan Hazard, Raphael Guerreiro and Mario Götze from the penalty spot. Another team who leapfrogged Bayern Munich were RB Leipzig, as they recorded a resounding 8-0 triumph at home to struggling Mainz 05, thanks to a Timo Werner hat-trick, in addition to goals from Christopher Nkunku, Marcel Halstenberg, Yussuf Poulsen and Nordi Mukiele. Meanwhile, high-flying SC Freiburg twice came from behind to draw 2-2 away to Werder Bremen thanks to a Nils Petersen brace, with the latter of the two goals coming in the 90th minute, despite the fact the away side were reduced to 10 men after Janik Haberer was shown a second yellow card.
The action today concluded with a Berlin derby, as newly-promoted 1.FC Union Berlin hosted Hertha Berlin, and it was the hosts who prevailed in a 1-0 victory thanks to a penalty from Sebastian Polter three minutes from time.
