Round-up:
There were two Bundesliga matches which took place on Sunday, starting with Borussia Mönchengladbach hosting Fortuna Dusseldorf, with the home side eventually coming out on top. However, rather surprisingly, it was Fortuna Dusseldorf who claimed the lead, thanks to Kasim Nuhu's goal after a mere six minutes. In the 67th minute Marcus Thuram, son of former footballer Lillian, stepped off the bench and this proved to be decisive in swinging the balance of the match, as he first equalised just 6 minutes after coming on, before 3 minutes from time he bagged his second goal of the game which proved to be the crucial winning goal for Borussia Mönchengladbach. Moreover, this result gave Borussia Mönchengladbach back-to-back league victories for the first time this season, though conversely this result made it four successive games without a victory for Fortuna Dusseldorf, who have now not claimed a victory since the opening day of the season.
The second game that took place in the Bundesliga on Sunday involved last season's Europa League semi-finalists Eintracht Frankfurt and last season's Bundesliga runners-up Borussia Dortmund who played out an entertaining 2-2 draw. All it required was just 11 minutes for Dortmund to go in front, and they did so thanks to Axel Witsel's precise finish into the bottom corner. Unfortunately, they failed to cling onto their lead until half-time, though, as Andre Silva equalised for Eintracht Frankfurt two minutes before the end of the first half. In the second half Borussia Dortmund then went back in front in the 66th minute thanks to a goal from 19-year old England international Jadon Sancho, already his third of the season. Despite losing key defender Mats Hummels due to injury 20 minutes from time, Borussia Dortmund seemed to be heading for victory, however, in the 88th minute Thomas Delaney diverted a shot from Daichi Kamada into his own net which consequently rescued a point for Eintracht Frankfurt.
The fifth weekend of Bundesliga action concluded with one match tonight, as Wolfsburg played host to Hoffenheim. In the end, neither side could claim the victory as they played out a 1-1 draw. It was Hoffenheim who took the lead and they did so after just 6 minutes thanks to Sebastian Rudy, before Admir Mehmedi cancelled it out half an hour, thus ensuring that Wolfsburg have maintained their unbeaten start to the season after 5 games.
