Round-up: The Championship's weekend action kicked off on Friday night with a clash between two sides relegated from the Premier League last season, with Cardiff City playing hosts to Fulham. This clash in the top flight last season produced six goals as Cardiff ran out 4-2 winners on the day, and whilst this clash somewhat unsurprisingly did not produce as many goals, it is not to say that it was dull - far from it. After a first half which was lacking in overall quality, Cardiff took the lead in the 42nd minute thanks to a decisive counter-attack which was finished off by Josh Murphy. They were unable to hold out until half-time, however, as right on the stroke of half-time, Aleksandar Mitrovic equalised for Fulham, bagging his fifth goal of the season already - highlighting how prolific he is, particularly at this level. In the second half, Fulham were reduced to 10 men as midfielder Harry Arter was shown two yellow cards in a short space of time. As a result of having a man advantage, Cardiff tried pushing forward in search of a winner, but did not succeed and thus the match ended in a 1-1 draw. In the early kick-off on Saturday, Bristol City and Middlesbrough played out an eventful 2-2 draw. In a first half where arguably Middlesbrough were the better team, it was Bristol City who took the lead thanks to Kasey Palmer, signed on a permanent deal in the summer, in the 44th minute. The second half played out in a similar manner to the first, as Middlesbrough continued to press for a goal, and they got the equaliser in the 64th minute thanks to an own goal by Taylor Moore, and striker Britt Assombalonga scored just four minutes later to put Middlesbrough in front. Despite the fact that it did not seem very likely, Bristol did manage to find an equaliser thanks to Tommy Rowe in the 81st minute which ensured a share of the spoils for both sides. The pick of the afternoon's action involved the two teams who headed the table going into the weekend, as Leeds United hosted Swansea City. It was a game in which Leeds put a lot of pressure on the Swans, but it was Swansea who earned a smash and grab win thanks to a 90th minute winner from substitute Wayne Routledge, which has taken them to the top of the table whilst inflicting a first defeat of the season on Leeds in the process. It has been a flying start to the season for newly promoted Charlton Athletic, who extended their unbeaten start and leapfrogged Leeds into second place as they recorded a 2-0 win away to Reading thanks to goals from Jonathan Leko and Lyle Taylor from the penalty spot. Another team who have maintained their unbeaten start to the season are West Bromwich Albion, who today came from behind to beat Blackburn Rovers 3-2. It did not take very long for Blackburn to take the lead, as Bradley Dack scored in the 1st minute, before just over 20 minutes later Matt Phillips equalised for West Brom. Jake Livermore and Grady Diangana scored to put them 3-1 up by the 40th minute, and right before half-time Bradley Johnson put Blackburn back in the game, but it was not enough as West Brom held on for a 3-2 win. Preston North End failed to make it 3 consecutive wins, after Albert Adomah scored for Nottingham Forest to cancel out Billy Bodin's earlier goal which had given them the lead. Birmingham City bounced back from their defeat last Sunday away to Swansea City by coming from behind to beat rock-bottom Stoke City 2-1. After a goalless first half, Stoke defender Liam Lindsay scored to give them the lead in the 58th minute, before 2 goals in 4 minutes from Lukas Jutkiewicz and Jude Bellingham ensured the points went to Birmingham. Another team badly struggling this season, Huddersfield Town, also threw away a lead, given to them by striker Karlan Grant, as Luton Town came from behind to beat them thanks to goals from James Collins from the penalty spot and Andrew Shinnie. Brentford seemingly found their shooting boots today at last, as they scored more goals than they had done in the previous 5 matches combined, beating Derby County 3-0 thanks to an Ollie Watkins brace which followed on from a goal by Bryan Mbeumo. Watkins has so far scored four (out of five) goals this season for Brentford, highlighting his significant influence on the team, particularly in the absence of Neal Maupay who departed to join Brighton during the summer. Queens Park Rangers made it back-to-back wins as they came from behind to win 2-1 away to Sheffield Wednesday thanks to a Jordan Hugill brace, after Steven Fletcher had given the hosts the lead from the penalty spot. Hull City, who were reduced to 10 men after attacker Josh Magennis was shown two yellow cards, drew 1-1 away to Millwall after Kamil Grosicki cancelled out Jed Wallace's penalty for the hosts, whilst Wigan Athletic and Barnsley played out a goalless draw.
