Round-up: The Championship's weekend action began on Saturday with the East Midlands derby, as a high-flying Nottingham Forest hosted a Derby County side who seem unable to win on the road this season. Therefore, it will not be seen as a surprise that it was the hosts who claimed the local bragging rights, thanks to a 56th minute goal from Lewis Grabban after an error by Derby County defender Jayden Bogle. The action on Saturday afternoon saw West Bromwich Albion maintain their lead at the top of the table as they won 1-0 away at Hull City thanks to a 28th minute goal from former Hull midfielder Jake Livermore. Preston North End kept up the pressure on West Brom, as they recorded a 3-1 win at home to Huddersfield Town thanks to goals from Jayden Stockley, Alan Browne and Paul Gallagher from the penalty spot. Juninho Bacuna then scored a scant consolation for Huddersfield in the 74th minute, as their seven-game unbeaten league run was ended. Another team at the top who recorded victory were Leeds United, who won 2-1 at home to Blackburn Rovers thanks to a Patrick Bamford penalty and a goal from Jack Harrison. Derrick Williams halved the deficit for the away side in the 40th minute, however, it proved to be scant consolation. After leading for the majority of the match, thanks to André Ayew's 32nd minute strike, Swansea City required a 94th minute goal from defender Ben Wilmot, after Sheffield Wednesday came from behind to lead thanks to goals from Fernando Forestieri and Morgan Fox. Fulham bounced back from their disappointing defeat at home to Hull City last week with a slender 1-0 win away to Birmingham City, thanks to a 52nd minute goal from star man Aleksandar Mitrovic. A team who seem to have benefited from a managerial change are Reading, who recorded their third win in four league games under manager Mark Bowen as a result of a 3-0 victory at home to Luton Town, thanks to goals from Michael Morrison, Ovie Ejaria and Garath McCleary. Michael O'Neill could hardly have wished for a better first game in charge of Stoke City, as his side recorded a 4-2 win which moved them off the bottom at the expense of opponents Barnsley. It only required 8 minutes for Stoke City to take the lead, and they did so thanks to a Sam Clucas goal. That lead was then doubled in the 30th minute after Lee Gregory scored from the penalty spot, before Cameron McGeehan halved the deficit for Barnsley in the 47th minute. Stoke then restored their two-goal lead thanks to a 64th minute goal from Joe Allen, before they extended their advantage only 3 minutes later as Clucas bagged his second goal of the game. Barnsley then scored a scant consolation thanks to an 82nd minute goal from Patrick Schmidt, however, they have not won since the opening day of the season and lie bottom of the table, 5 points adrift of safety. Middlesbrough salvaged a point away to Queens Park Rangers thanks to a Britt Assombalonga brace, whilst QPR benefited from a Jonny Howson own goal followed by a Nahki Wells strike. It is fair to say that a new managerial appointment has not harmed Millwall, as they recorded a 2-1 win at home to Charlton Athletic thanks to a 91st minute winner from Matt Smith, after Jonathan Leko had cancelled out Shaun Hutchinson's sixth minute goal from the hosts. Brentford recorded their fourth win in five games, as they comfortably won 3-0 away at Wigan Athletic thanks to goals from Bryan Mbeumo, Kamohelo Mokotjo and Josh Dasilva. It was a match which saw both sides reduced to 10 men, as Cedric Kipre and Julian Jeanvier were sent off for Wigan and Brentford respectively. The weekend's action came to a conclusion with the Severnside derby, as Bristol City triumphed 1-0 away at Cardiff City thanks to a brilliant 67th minute goal from Josh Brownhill, which ended Cardiff's undefeated record at home this season.
