Round-up:
The Championship's weekend action began with the customary Friday night clash, as Millwall salvaged a late point at home to Nottingham Forest. The hosts took the lead in the 15th minute thanks to a goal from Shaun Williams. In the second half, Nottingham Forest manager decided to bring on Lewis Grabban from the bench, and this had the desired effect as he equalised in the 63rd minute for Forest. Grabban then bagged his second goal of the game just 2 minutes from time, which put Nottingham Forest in front. However, his goals were not sufficient to give them the victory, as Adam O'Brien's 90th minute goal helped to give Millwall a point.
The action on Saturday began with a Yorkshire derby, as a struggling Huddersfield Town hosted high-flying Leeds United. Therefore, it would come as little surprise that Leeds triumphed in a 2-0 win thanks to goals from Ezgjan Alioski and Pablo Hernandez, which helped maintain their grip on the automatic promotion places.
The key fixture which took place on Saturday afternoon arguably came in West London, as Fulham hosted Bristol City. In the end, it was the away side who prevailed in a 2-1 triumph, thanks to goals from Josh Brownhill and Famara Diedhiou, whilst Aboubakar Kamara bagged a late consolation for Fulham, who should have been awarded a penalty in stoppage time after Callum O'Dowda fouled Neeskens Kebano in the box, though nothing was given. As a result of this victory, Bristol leapfrogged Nottingham Forest into fourth place and moved level on points with third-placed Fulham. Sheffield Wednesday moved into the play-off places, as they came from behind to win 2-1 at home to Brentford thanks to a Steven Fletcher brace, after Bryan Mbeumo had given the away side the lead. The key result, however, which helped Sheffield Wednesday move into the play-offs (beside their own victory) was that Preston North End suffered their fourth consecutive league defeat, this time at the hands of Queens Park Rangers, who themselves recorded their first league win since the 19th October. It is fair to say that Eberechi Eze has been a key player for QPR this season, and he proved crucial yesterday as his two goals, one of which came from the penalty spot, helped give them a 2-0 win. Blackburn Rovers have been in impressive form of late, and they continued that, as they recorded a 1-0 win at home to Derby County thanks to a 57th minute goal from Adam Armstrong, which gave them their fifth league win in six games. On the other hand, Derby's defeat means they have lost 5 successive away league games. Cardiff City twice came from behind, as they recorded a 3-2 win at home to bottom side Barnsley. Barnsley took the lead in the 17th minute, before that was cancelled out only 3 minutes later thanks to an own goal from Bambo Diaby. Barnsley then went back in front only 3 minutes after half-time thanks to an another own goal, this time from Lee Peltier. Cardiff then equalised once more through Danny Ward, before a 90th minute goal from Lee Tomlin gave them the victory, their third in a row in the league. Charlton Athletic suffered their third successive league defeat, this time at the hands of Middlesbrough, who recorded their second league win in 3 games, thanks to a 1st minute goal from George Saville. After making a promising start under new manager Michael O'Neill, Stoke City have suffered a loss of form, as they fell to a 2-1 defeat away to Hull City, who came from behind to win thanks to a second half brace from Jarrod Bowen, after Sam Vokes had given Stoke the lead in the 7th minute. Another team who came from behind to win were Luton Town, as two late goals from Callum McManaman and George Moncur gave them a 2-1 victory at home to Wigan Athletic, who had taken a 35th minute lead via Kieffer Moore and saw Chey Dunkley sent off for two yellow cards. Meanwhile, Birmingham City recorded their first win since the 26th October, as goals from Jeremie Bela, Alvaro Gimenez, in addition to an own goal from Michael Morrison, gave them a 3-2 win away to Reading.
The action came to a conclusion with a final match on Sunday, as West Bromwich Albion maintained their lead at the top of the table, as they recorded a resounding 5-1 victory at home to Swansea City, thanks to goals from Semi Ajayi, Matheus Pereira, Hal Robson-Kanu, Matt Phillips and Kyle Edwards - which gave West Brom their sixth league win in succession.
