Round-up: The Championship's weekend action began with the rather familiar Friday night fixture, as Swansea City hosted an in-form Fulham side, and, perhaps to little surprise, it was the away side who prevailed in a 2-1 triumph. Fulham will undoubtedly be thankful that they managed to hold on to Aleksandar Mitrović during the summer, despite suffering relegation from the Premier League, as he bagged two first half goals to give Fulham a 2-0 lead, before Swansea then halved the deficit in the second half thanks to a 65th minute goal from George Byers. However, in the end Fulham held on for their fourth successive league victory. The action on Saturday began with Charlton Athletic, whose supporters were delighted at the fact that the club is going to be sold to a new owner, hosting Sheffield Wednesday in a clash between two sides who have not been in the best of form lately. In the end, it was Sheffield Wednesday who triumphed in a 3-1 victory thanks to an Adthe Nuhiu goal which followed a brace from Steven Fletcher, in a match which saw several incidents which could have led to the award of a penalty, though in the end only one was awarded, which Fletcher converted. The afternoon action on Saturday saw several free-scoring matches, starting with Brentford who recorded a 7-0 trashing at home to Luton Town, thanks in no small part to a hat-trick from Josh Dasilva. However, that would be discarding goals scored from Bryan Mbeumo, Ollie Watkins, Mathias Jensen and Said Benrahma from the penalty spot which completed such a rout. Bristol City hosted Huddersfield Town in another match which saw a total of 7 goals scored, as the hosts recorded a 5-2 victory thanks to goals from Josh Brownhill, Niclas Eliasson, Ashley Williams, Andreas Weimann as well as a Terence Kongolo own goal. Karlan Grant and Juninho Bacuna bagged the goals which made the scoreline slightly more respectable for Huddersfield. Thanks to their victory, Bristol moved level on points with Nottingham Forest (who admittedly have a game in hand), who suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Cardiff City thanks to a 14th minute goal from Nathaniel Mendez-Laing. Leeds United recorded their fifth successive league win, and in resounding fashion too, as they hammered Middlesbrough 4-0 thanks to goals from Patrick Bamford, Hélder Costa and Mateusz Klich who bagged a brace. In stark contrast to Leeds, who have won all their past five consecutive league games, Barnsley earned their first league win since the opening day of the season, as they recorded a 3-1 win at home to Hull City, thanks to goals from Alex Mowatt, Mike Bahre and Conor Chaplin, which also gave newly-appointed manager Gerhard Struber his first win since taking charge of the Yorkshire side. Stoke City suffered their second successive league defeat, this time at the hands of Blackburn Rovers, who, in contrast, recorded their third successive league victory and fourth win in five games - as goals from Bradley Dack and Sam Gallagher six minutes from time gave Blackburn a 2-1 triumph. Another side currently in the relegation zone, Wigan Athletic, also fell to defeat, themselves at home to Reading, who came from behind to record a 3-1 victory thanks to a hat-trick from George Puscas in the space of only 6 minutes after Joe Garner had put the hosts in front. Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney appeared in the Derby dressing room for the first time since joining the club as player-coach (he will be eligible to play for Derby from January), however, Derby County failed to record victory, as a penalty from Queens Park Rangers midfielder Eberechi Eze cancelled out a brilliant free kick from Martyn Waghorn which had given Derby the lead. Millwall, currently under the management of Gary Rowett, were denied victory in a 1-1 draw by his former club Birmingham City, who equalised in the 79th minute thanks to Jake Clarke-Salter. The weekend's action finally came to a conclusion on Monday night, as Preston North End hosted West Bromwich Albion. In the end, it was the away side who prevailed in a 1-0 victory which enabled them to keep top spot thanks to a controversial 90th minute penalty which was converted by Charlie Austin.
