Round-up:
The Championship action resumed following the international break with a Friday night clash, as Fulham hosted Queens Park Rangers in a West London derby. After only 3 minutes, the away side took the lead thanks to a goal from Jordan Hugill, and were dominant for the first 20 minutes of the contest. However, they did not sustain that level of performance and Fulham were the superior team for the remainder of the match. They were duly rewarded for that, as they came from behind to record back-to-back league victories thanks to a brace from Aboubakar Kamara either side of half-time, in a result which means QPR have not won any of their last five consecutive league matches.
The action on Saturday began with a clash in London, as Charlton Athletic hosted Cardiff City who were under Neil Harris' management for the first time since Neil Warnock departed just under a fortnight ago. In the end, neither side could be separated, as Cardiff came back from two goals down to salvage a point. Charlton raced into a 2-0 lead in the first half thanks to goals from Conor Gallagher and Jonathan Leko. Cardiff were then handed a massive opportunity to get back into the game as they were awarded a penalty, however, Junior Hoilett failed to convert it as he saw his extremely weak penalty saved by Charlton goalkeeper Dillon Phillips. However, Cardiff then did half the deficit in the 52nd minute thanks to a goal from Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, before the comeback was complete in the 73rd minute thanks to Lee Tomlin's strike. The afternoon's action saw plenty of late goals, as league leaders West Bromwich Albion secured a 2-1 victory at home to Sheffield Wednesday thanks to an 88th minute penalty from experienced striker Charlie Austin, after Steven Fletcher's penalty had cancelled out a goal in the 10th minute from Hal Robson-Kanu which had put the hosts in front, whilst Sheffield Wednesday were then reduced to 10 men as Liam Palmer was shown a straight red card. Another match which saw a late goal came in Luton, as a 90th minute own goal from Matt Pearson handed Leeds United all three points in a 2-1 win away at Luton Town. Patrick Bamford had put Leeds in front in the 51st minute, and the goal was allowed to stand despite protestations from Luton for a foul on Isaiah Brown, before Luton equalised only 3 minutes later thanks to a James Collins header. It seemed as though Luton would end a run of four successive losses, until Pearson's own goal handed Leeds the victory and inflicted a fifth successive defeat for Luton. As a result of their victory, Leeds United moved into the automatic promotion places, helped by the fact that Preston North End suffered their first defeat since the 19th October, as they were beaten by a Martyn Waghorn goal which gave Derby County a 1-0 win and their fifth consecutive home win. Millwall kept up their strong form since the appointment of Gary Rowett as manager, as they recorded a 1-0 win away at Swansea City thanks to a fantastic free kick from Jed Wallace which gave Millwall their third win in four league games since Rowett took over. In a clash involving two sides who went into the weekend in the play-off places, Nottingham Forest held on to take a point in a goalless draw away to Bristol City, despite being reduced to 10 men after Ryan Yates was sent off for a reckless tackle. Brentford closed to within two points of the play-off places, as they recorded their fifth win in six league games thanks to an Ollie Watkins header in the 62nd minute which helped them secure a 1-0 win at home to Reading. Marc Roberts' 78th minute header helped salvage a point for Birmingham City, as they recorded a 1-1 draw away at Huddersfield Town, who had taken the lead in the 55th minute thanks to a goal from Fraizer Campbell. Another match which saw a late goal came in the Midlands, as Stoke City recorded back-to-back league victories for the second time this season and maintained manager Michael O'Neill's 100% record since taking charge of the club in a 2-1 victory at home to Wigan Athletic. Wigan had taken the lead in the 39th minute thanks to a goal from captain and Egyptian international Sam Morsy, which was cancelled out 16 minutes later thanks to a goal from Danny Batth, before Mame Biram Diouf scored his first goal of the season to give Stoke all three points. Blackburn Rovers also scored a late goal, as Bradley Dack scored in the 86th minute to give them a 3-2 win at home to Barnsley who had twice come from behind to level, in what was manager Gerhard Struber's first league game in charge of the away side. Finally, the action concluded today with a clash in the North East, as Hull City came back from 2-0 down to draw away to 10-man Middlesbrough, who it is fair to say have been struggling this season. The hosts raced into a two-goal lead thanks to goals from Marcus Tavernier and Ashley Fletcher inside only 26 minutes, before the game was completely turned on its head in the 37th minute as Marvin Johnson was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Hull's Eric Lichaj. Then two goals in the space of five second-half minutes from Jarrod Bowen helped Hull to rescue a point, in a result which has enabled Middlesbrough to move out of the relegation zone by virtue of superior goal difference.
