Round-up: The Championship's action began with a Friday night fixture, as Bristol City hosted Birmingham City. All it took for a goal to come was a mere 40 seconds, as the home side took the lead thanks to a Jamie Paterson goal. That lead was cancelled out in the 23rd minute thanks to a goal from Scott Hogan, a late January loan signing for Birmingham City, who then went ahead just 7 minutes later thanks to an Andreas Weimann own goal. Birmingham then sealed their second successive league win in the 92nd minute thanks to a Lukas Jutkiewicz goal. In Saturday's early kick-off, Preston North End moved into the final promotion play-off spot at Bristol City's expense, as the Lancashire side recorded a 2-1 win away to Wigan Athletic thanks to goals from Tom Barkhuizen and Daniel Johnson, with Chey Dunkley scoring what proved to be a mere consolation for Wigan. Another match which kicked off early came in Yorkshire, as Barnsley earned a point thanks to a Cauley Woodrow after he cancelled out Josh Windass' earlier strike which had put Sheffield Wednesday in front. Fulham moved level on points with Leeds United who occupy the second automatic promotion spot, as they recorded a slender 1-0 win away to Blackburn Rovers thanks to a second-half strike from Aleksandar Mitrovic. Fulham's West London rivals, Brentford, kept up their chase for automatic promotion thanks to an 87th minute winner from Ollie Watkins after Middlesbrough had twice come from behind to level the scoring. Derby County continued their upwardly mobile form of 2020, as they recorded a 3-2 win away at Swansea City thanks to goals from Martyn Waghorn, Duane Holmes and Tom Lawrence 10 minutes from time. Huddersfield Town put further distance between themselves and the relegation zone, thanks to goals from Elias Kachunga and Steve Mounie from the penalty spot, which helped give them a vital 2-0 win over a Queens Park Rangers side who have won just one of their last five games, losing the other four. Another team putting further distance between themselves and the relegation zone were Stoke City, whom it is fair to say have been in fine form since the turn of the year, as they recorded a 3-1 win at home to fellow strugglers Charlton Athletic thanks to goals from James McClean, Tom Ince and Nick Powell. On the other hand, a team who have been in poor recent form, and struggling at the foot of the table are Luton Town, whose survival prospects took a further blow as they suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Cardiff City thanks to a Lee Tomlin goal. Reading and Hull City took a share of the spoils, as Mallik Walks cancelled out Jordan Obita's 56th minute goal which had given Reading the lead. The action on Saturday concluded with a crucial match in the race for promotion, as Nottingham Forest hosted Leeds United, and it was the hosts who ultimately prevailed in a massive 2-0 triumph thanks to goals from Sammy Ameobi and Tyler Walker, which means that now Nottingham Forest move to within one point of Leeds in second. The weekend action concluded with a Sunday fixture, as Millwall hosted West Bromwich Albion in awful weather conditions due to the effects of Storm Ciara in the United Kingdom. In the end, it was the away side who triumphed in a 2-0 win thanks to goals either side of half-time from Filip Krovinovic and Dara O'Shea which enabled West Brom to record back-to-back league wins for the first since December, and in the process open up a four-point lead at the top of the table.
