Exeter City dropped down from second to fourth place as they suffered a 4-0 humbling away to Cambridge United thanks to goals from Luke Hannant, Jack Roles, George Taft and Andrew Dallas. One of the two teams who leapfrogged Exeter were Bradford City, as they recorded a slender 2-1 victory at home to Crawley Town thanks to goals from Harry Pritchard and Daniel Devine, with Reece Grego-Cox grabbing what was ultimately a mere consolation for Crawley. In addition to Bradford, Newport County leapfrogged Exeter thanks to a 2-1 victory at home to Scunthorpe United thanks to goals from Padraig Amond and Josh Sheehan, sparing the blushes of Mark O'Brien whose own goal had enabled Scunthorpe to equalise. Although Newport and Bradford took advantage of Exeter losing, the same cannot be said of Forest Green Rovers who blew away a 2-goal lead at home to Mansfield Town which meant that the sides took a share of the spoils. This enabled Cheltenham Town to leapfrog Forest Green in the table, as they recorded a 2-1 win away to Walsall thanks to goals from Ben Tozer and Luke Varney after Josh Gordon had equalised from the penalty spot. Plymouth Argyle extended their unbeaten league run to four successive matches as they recorded a 2-0 triumph at home to Carlisle United thanks to goals from Joel Grant and Antoni Sarcevic. Another team to record a fourth successive match unbeaten were Macclesfield Town, as they recorded an impressive 1-0 win away to Port Vale thanks to an 86th minute goal from Jak McCourt. Leyton Orient maintained their perfect league run in October, recording a third successive vicotry this month as they comfortably beat Grimsby Town 4-0 away from home thanks to goals from Daniel Happe, Josh Coulson, James Alabi and Josh Wright from the penalty spot. The other promoted team, meanwhile, Salford City saw a run of two successive victories come to an end as they fell to a 2-0 defeat away to Northampton Town thanks to a Sam Hoskins penalty followed by a goal from Jordan Turnbull. Meanwhile, Morecambe moved off the bottom after they recorded a slender 1-0 victory away to Colchester United thanks to a Cole Stockton goal. They did so at the expense of Stevenage, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Port Vale after Kurtis Guthrie's penalty cancelled out an early Jake Taylor strike which had put Stevenage in the lead.
