Round-up: The League 2 action continued today and saw a total of 31 goals. Early pacesetters Exeter City maintained their unbeaten start to the season, but failed to win as they were held to a draw by Newport County. It was Exeter who went in front thanks to veteran Lee Martin after 15 minutes, and that was how the score remained going into half-time. Newport then proceeded to cancel out Exeter's advantage in the second half, and they did so thanks to Tristan Abrahams who scored from the penalty spot to ensure a share of the spoils for both sides in a 1-1 draw. Although Exeter City remained at the summit of League 2, Crewe Alexandra reduced the deficit to just one point as they came from behind to beat Salford City 4-1 thanks to goals from Chris Porter, Harry Pickering and a brace from Tom Lowery after Adam Rooney had put Salford ahead in the first half. Cheltenham Town remained in the automatic promotion places as they recorded an impressive 2-0 win away to Plymouth Argyle thanks to Luke Varney's goal which was followed up very late on by an own goal from Will Aimson. Swindon Town bounced back from their disappointing defeat against Northampton in midweek by recording a slender 1-0 win away to Cambridge United thanks to Jerry Yates' 27th minute goal. Forest Green Rovers failed to win for a second successive match as they were held to a goalless draw by bottom side Stevenage as the home side were reduced to 10 men with four minutes remaining as Kyle Taylor was shown a second yellow card. Bradford City moved into the play-off places as they came from behind to beat Carlisle United 3-1 in a match which saw both teams reduced to 10 men. Carlisle went in front thanks to Olufela Olomula in the 17th minute. That lead lasted less than 15 minutes as Harry Pritchard equalised on the half-hour mark, and just 3 minutes later Carlisle were reduced to 10 men as Jack Bridge was shown his second yellow card. The number of players on each teams was levelled up once again as Bradford's Ben Richards-Everton was shown a straight red card in the 62nd minute. In the end, however, this did not prove too costly for the home side as they wrapped up the win in the 90th minute thanks to a goal from Zeli Ismail. Crawley Town produced what was perhaps the comeback of the day as they came from 2 goals down away to Northampton Town which made it 5 consecutive matches unbeaten for the away side. It took just 15 minutes for the hosts to go in front as Chris Lines scored from the penalty spot. They then doubled the lead in the 64th minute thanks to Shaun McWilliams, before just six minutes later Crawley halved the deficit thanks to Ashley Nathaniel-George. It looked as though Northampton Town would make it 3 consecutive wins, until an own goal from Joe Martin in the 95th minute denied them and meant that the sides would have to take a share of the spoils each in a 2-2 draw. Another match which had four goals involved Port Vale and Mansfield Town who played out a 2-2 draw. Mansfield took the lead after just 14 minutes thanks to Kellan Gordon, before that was cancelled out through Mark Cullen's goal right on the stroke of half-time. Then Mansfield went back in front as Danny Rose scored from the penalty spot, before Port Vale scored right at the end of the half once again, this time thanks to Nathan Smith. Grimsby Town ended a run of 3 consecutive winless matches as they recorded a slender 1-0 win at home to Macclesfield Town thanks to a goal from Ethan Robson in the 56th minute. Dino Maamria began life as Oldham Athletic manager in style as they recorded a 3-1 win over Morecambe thanks to goals from Mohamed Maouche, Desire Segbe Azankpo and Jonny Smith. Walsall made it back-to-back wins as they recorded a narrow 1-0 win over second-bottom Scunthorpe United thanks to a goal from James Clarke, whilst Colchester United also recorded back-to-back wins as they recorded a 2-1 win at home to Leyton Orient thanks to goals from Kwame Poku and Ryan Jackson, with Conor Wilkinson scoring what proved to be a mere consolation for the away side.
