Josh Wright gave the perfect result for newly-promoted Leyton Orient, who sadly lost manager Justin Edinburgh over the summer.

Results: Salford City 2 Stevenage 0 Bradford City 0 Cambridge United 0 Carlisle United 2 Crawley Town 1 Colchester United 1 Port Vale 1 Crewe Alexandra 0 Plymouth Argyle 3 Exeter City 1 Macclesfield Town 0 Forest Green Rovers 1 Oldham Athletic 0 Leyton Orient 1 Cheltenham Town 0 Morecambe 0 Grimsby Town 2 Newport County 2 Mansfield Town 2 Northampton Town 0 Walsall 1 Scunthorpe United 0 Swindon Town 2 Round-up: The EFL League 2 season has got underway, and it kicked-off with newly promoted Salford City, who are partly owned by the Class of 92 (Gary and Phil Neville, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, David Beckham and Ryan Giggs), hosting Stevenage - and the League 2 debutants came out on top in a 2-0 victory thanks to a brace from Emmanuel Dieseruvwe. Leyton Orient, who returned to League 2 after a two-year absence having won the National League title, and who sadly lost manager Justin Edinburgh in the summer after his tragic passing, gave a result that Edinburgh would surely have been proud off as they began their season with a 1-0 victory over nine-man Cheltenham Town thanks to a goal from Josh Wright. Plymouth Argyle, relegated from League 1 last season, began their bid to return to the third tier in perfect fashion, as they comfortably beat Crewe Alexandra 3-0 to go top of League 2. It was also a good day for Walsall, who too were relegated to League 2, as they edged out Northampton Town by a solitary goal. However, relegated Scunthorpe United did not get off to a good start under new manager Paul Hirst, as they suffered a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Swindon Town. As for the remaining team relegated for League 1, Bradford City took a share of the spoils against Cambridge United as the two teams played out a goalless draw. Last season's promotion play-off semi-finalists, Forest Green Rovers, began their season with an ideal result, as they edged out Oldham Athletic 1-0 thanks to a goal from Taylor Allen. The two other teams who last season advanced to the promotion play-offs, Newport County and Mansfield Town, could not be separated yet again (they faced off in the play-off semi-final last year and Newport County only won on penalties, before losing out in the final to Tranmere Rovers) as they played out a 2-2 draw, with Mansfield coming from two goals down. Macclesfield Town, who survived last season against all the odds under the management of Sol Campbell but who have sadly been hamstrung by financial problems, suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Exeter City thanks to a goal from Ryan Bowman. Grimsby Town began their season in impressive fashion as they claimed a 2-0 victory over Morecambe, and Carlisle United also opened their season with a victory as they edged out Crawley Town 2-1. There was one other match, between Colchester United and Port Vale which ended in a 1-1 draw.
