The early table toppers, Exeter City, won 3-1 away to Carlisle United thanks to goals from Lee and Aaron Martin, and a late strike from Nicky Law which ensured they maintained their place at the summit. Last season's promotion play-off finalists, Newport County, maintained their impressive unbeaten start to the season as they recorded a slender 1-0 win at home to Port Vale thanks to a goal from Jamile Matt, who later won a debatable penalty but Padraig Amond failed to convert it - not that it mattered much ultimately as they won just the same. In a match involving two early high flyers, Crewe Alexandra travelled to Grimsby Town and it was the away side who came out in a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Tom Lowery and Charlie Kirk. Forest Green Rovers continued their positive early start to the season thanks to a goal from Jack Aitchison which gave them a 1-0 win away to Cambridge United, for whom Marc Richards saw a penalty kick saved. Plymouth Argyle failed to win for the second successive match, as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Oldham Athletic, despite having come from behind to lead. Johan Branger gave Oldham the lead in the 27th minute, before defender Scott Wootton equalised just 4 minutes later and then Byron Moore put them in front in the 74th minute, however, Oldham rescued a point thanks to veteran defender David Wheater who scored just 3 minutes later. Salford City extended their unbeaten run in the league to five matches, as they recorded a fifth successive draw, this time drawing 2-2 away to Morecambe whilst they (Salford) failed to convert two penalties. Cheltenham Town moved into the play-off places at this early stage of the season as they won 4-2 at home to Stevenage thanks to goals from Gavin Reilly, Sean Long, Ryan Broom and Alex Addai in a match where the scoreline was arguably more resounding than the performance itself. Cheltenham did so at the expense of Macclesfield Town, who were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Crawley Town after Bez Lubala cancelled out Theo Vassell's earlier goal for the hosts. Swindon Town maintained their impressive start to the season as they won 3-1 away to Leyton Orient thanks to goals from Keshi Anderson, an own goal from Joe Widdowson and a strike from Jerry Yates, with Jordan Maguire-Drew scoring a consolation for the hosts. Bradford City bounced back from two successive defeats as they came from behind to beat Northampton Town 2-1 thanks to an own goal from Michael Harriman before an 88th minute winner from Paudie O'Connor. Scunthorpe United's disastrous start to the season has continued as they suffered a 2-0 defeat away to Mansfield Town, which means they remain bottom of the table, whilst Colchester United and Walsall played out a goalless draw.
