Brighton's Aaron Connolly enjoyed a dream league debut for Brighton as he bagged a brace in a brilliant 3-0 win over Tottenham.

Round-up: The Premier League's weekend action began with Brighton & Hove Albion hosting Tottenham Hotspur, and it was the home side who came out on top in a thoroughly deserved 3-0 victory. It is a result which undoubtedly piles more pressure on Tottenham and their manager Mauricio Pochettino, particularly after their 7-2 humiliation at home to Bayern Munich in the Champions League last Tuesday. All it required was just 3 minutes for Brighton to take the lead, and they did so thanks to a Neal Maupay strike which was massively helped by a goalkeeping error from Tottenham's Hugo Lloris as he dropped a ball which he attempted to catch following a cross. Although the error was undoubtedly disappointing, the worst part was that Lloris suffered a horrific injury, which has been confirmed as a dislocated elbow. The lead was then doubled as Brighton academy graduate Aaron Connolly bagged his first senior goal for the club in what was his first league start thanks to a finish from close range. Despite an improved showing in the early part of the second half from Tottenham, it was Brighton who scored again and they did so thanks to Connolly's second goal of the game which was lovely curling shot into the bottom corner which sealed Brighton's first home league win of the season for new manager Graham Potter. In the afternoon's matches, the standout result arguably came in a clash between the two promoted sides, as Aston Villa recorded a remarkable 5-1 win away to Norwich City. The protagonist in this win was undoubtedly Wesley, as he bagged a brace whilst also having a penalty saved by Norwich goalkeeper Michael McGovern. The rest of the goalscorers were Douglas Luiz, Jack Grealish, Conor Hourihane - with the latter bagging his first ever Premier League goal, whilst Grealish scored his first goal since Aston Villa's return to the Premier League, whilst Josip Drmic scored an extremely scant consolation goal for Norwich. Liverpool extended their 100% start to the season in the most dramatic fashion as James Milner scored a 95th minute penalty to give them a 2-1 victory at home to Leicester City. Sadio Mané scored in the 40th minute to give Liverpool the lead, which was cancelled out in the 80th minute by James Maddison, however, Liverpool were not to be denied as they were awarded a 94th minute penalty after Marc Albrighton's foul on Mané in the penalty area, and Milner nervelessly converted the resulting penalty. Burnley recorded a 1-0 victory at home to 10-man Everton thanks to a 72nd minute goal from Jeff Hendrick, in a result which undoubtedly heightens the pressure on Everton boss Marco Silva. Meanwhile, Watford earned their first clean sheet of the season as they played out a goalless draw at home to Sheffield United. The action today concluded with an evening fixture, as West Ham United hosted Crystal Palace, and it was the away side who ultimately triumphed in an impressive 2-1 victory. After a disappointing first half, it was West Ham who took the lead in the 54th minute thanks to a goal from Sebastien Haller. That lead, however, lasted just 9 minutes as Crystal Palace were awarded a penalty following a Declan Rice handball, and, as regular penalty taker Luka Milivojevic was suspended, it was Patrick van Aanholt who stepped up to take the resulting spot kick and he calmly converted it. Just as it seemed like the two sides would have to take a share of the spoils, Andre Ayew scored an 87th minute winner for Crystal Palace after a long wait - as the goal was initially disallowed for offside, however, the decision was correctly overturned thanks to the VAR which showed that Ayew was in an onside position, and thus it was Crystal Palace who took all the three points as they recorded their second successive league victory.
