Round-up: The final day of Premier League action for 2019 (and the decade!) saw three matches take place, starting with a huge London derby, as Arsenal hosted Chelsea in Mikel Arteta's first home game in charge of the Gunners. It is fair to say that things started well for the home side, who were playing some brilliant football and bossed the opening half-hour of the match, with their reward for their dominance coming in the 13th minute thanks to a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang header which put Arsenal in front. Arguably, the turning point came in the 34th minute of the game, when Chelsea manager Frank Lampard decided to substitute Emerson off for midfielder Jorginho. As a result, Chelsea played the better football for the majority of the match, however, they struggled to break down the hosts, until Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno failed to collect the ball from a free kick delivery by Mason Mount, which enabled Jorginho, who should earlier have been shown a second yellow card for a cynical foul on Lucas Torreira, to tap the ball into an empty net 7 minutes from time. In the end, it was Chelsea who grabbed a winning goal, as 4 minutes after Jorginho's equaliser, they managed a brilliant counter-attack which was calmly finished by striker Tammy Abraham. The current league leaders, and European and club World champions, Liverpool, hosted a strongly-performing Wolverhampton Wanderers side. In the end, a goal from Sadio Mané was enough to settle the contest in Liverpool's favour, which stood thanks to VAR after referee Anthony Taylor had whistled for a handball by Adam Lallana in the build-up, though VAR correctly ruled that this was not the case. Wolves also had the ball in the net, thanks to teenager Pedro Neto right on the stroke of half-time, however, this was controversially disallowed by the VAR who deemed Jonny to be offside by a negligble margin, a decision which certainly was contentious to say the least. Despite strong pressure in the latter stages from Wolves, who did have a few presentable opportunities, Liverpool held on for the win and capped off a brilliant 2019 with an ideal result, which means they have won all bar one of their league fixtures this season. The final Premier League match of 2019 came in the North West, as reigning champions Manchester City hosted Chris Wilder's Sheffield United. The Blades, who have been impressive so far this campaign, actually had the ball in the net first themselves in the first half thanks to striker Lys Mousset, though this goal was disallowed by the VAR as Mousset was controversially deemed to have been offside when the through ball was being played to him by midfielder John Fleck. The champions then took the lead in somewhat controversial circumstances, as referee Chris Kavanagh inadvertently got in the way of John Fleck, which led to the ball going to Kevin de Bruyne, which then led to Sergio Aguero scoring to give Manchester City the lead. Manchester City then wrapped up the win 8 minutes from time thanks to De Bruyne, as Sheffield United lost for the first time away from home since the 19th January, when they lost 1-0 away to Swansea City in the Championship.
