Round-up: The Premier League's weekend action began with a Friday night kick-off in the South Coast, as Southampton hosted Leicester City in a match which broke several records, as the away side recorded a remarkable victory of 9 (yes, NINE) goals to nil. In a match where Leicester dominated from the very first whistle of the match, it took them a mere 10 minutes to take the lead, and they did so thanks to left-back Ben Chilwell's first league goal of the season. However, the turning point of the match arguably came in the build-up to this goal, as Ryan Bertrand was sent off for a reckless tackle on Ayoze Pérez, which was missed by the referee who played an advantage which ultimately resulted in the goal - but the incident was picked up by the VAR and then the referee sent Bertrand off, which reduced Southampton to 10 men. Seven minutes later, the lead was doubled thanks to a second goal in as many games from Belgian midfielder Youri Tielemans. All it took was another 2 minutes for the third goal to go in, as Pérez scored his first goal since signing for Leicester during the summer. Pérez then bagged his second goal of the game 20 minutes later to make the scoreline 4-0, and it was 5-0 going into half-time thanks to Jamie Vardy's 45th minute goal. Pérez then went on to complete his hat-trick with a 57th minute goal which made the scoreline 6-0, before Vardy bagged his second and Leicester's seventh goal of the night only a minute later. James Maddison then got in on the scoring act thanks to an 85th minute freekick to make it 8-0, before Leicester were awarded a penalty in the 90th minute which Vardy converted to complete his own hat-trick and seal a quite remarkable 9-0 triumph. Some records which were broken/equalled due to this result include: - Biggest ever away win in a Premier League match (the previous biggest Premier League away win was 8-1 when Manchester United beat Nottingham Forest in February 1999). Tonight's result actually also breaks the record for biggest ever away win in an English top flight match. - Biggest ever win in a Premier League match (this equals the record set by Manchester United, who beat Ipswich Town 9-0 in March 1995) - Biggest ever defeat suffered by Southampton in their entire club history Meanwhile, the action today began with reigning champions Manchester City hosting Aston Villa. After a goalless first half, Manchester City took the lead inside the opening minute of the second half thanks to a goal from Raheem Sterling. The lead was then doubled in somewhat confusing fashion, as initially the goal was awarded to Kevin de Bruyne, which somewhat controversially stood even though Sterling was alleged to have been impeding Aston Villa goalkeeper Tom Heaton. Eventually, the Goal Accreditation Panel credited David Silva with the goal. The victory was then wrapped up 20 minutes from time thanks to a goal from Ilkay Gundogan, however, one negative for the champions came 3 minutes from time, as they were reduced to 10 men after Fernandinho was shown his second yellow card. There were three matches which took place simultaneously in the afternoon, with the most notable coming in Sussex, as Brighton & Hove Albion and Everton played out a 5-goal thriller. Brighton took the lead in the 15th minute thanks to a brilliantly-struck free-kick from Pascal Gross, however, that lasted a mere 5 minutes as an Adam Webster own goal levelled up the scoring. Everton then took the lead in the 74th minute thanks to a goal from attacker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, before VAR awarded the first penalty ever in the Premier League not initially given by the referee, as Michael Keane was adjudged to have tripped Brighton striker Adam Connolly in the penalty area, and Neal Maupay converted it to level the scoring once more. It seemed as though the two sides would have to settle for a point, until Everton left-back Lucas Digne diverted Leandro Trossard's cross into his own net to give Brighton all 3 points. Sheffield United maintained their unbeaten away start to the Premier League, as last Monday's match winner Lys Mousset cancelled out Robert Snodgrass' 44th minute goal which had given West Ham United the lead. Meanwhile, Watford remain winless in the league this season, however, they did extend their unbeaten league run to three successive match as they held AFC Bournemouth to a goalless draw. Finally, today's Premier League action concluded with a match in the North West, as Burnley hosted an in-form Chelsea side. It is fair to say that the outcome of the match turned out as expected, with the away side triumphant in a 4-2 victory. One player Chelsea would have to thank for this victory is Christian Pulisic, who scored a perfect hat-trick (right foot, left foot, header) before Willian made it 4-0. Two late goals for the hosts from Jay Rodriguez and Dwight McNeil did reduce the deficit for the hosts, however, it was a case of too little, too late.
