Round-up:
The Premier League continued with two fixtures this evening, as Leicester City hosted Brighton & Hove Albion whilst Tottenham Hotspur hosted West Ham United in a London derby, to kickstart a midweek round of Premier League action.
The action began in the East Midlands with Leicester City's fixture against Brighton. Brighton had a glorious opportunity to take the lead inside only 13 minutes, as they were awarded a penalty following a foul by Leicester City right-back James Justin on Brighton attacker Aaron Connolly. Neal Maupay stepped up to take the resulting spot kick, however, his penalty was an extremely disappointing one and easily saved by Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel. In the second half especially, Leicester dominated the possession, though they rarely ever looked like breaching the Brighton backline and in the end both sides had to settle for a point - one which would suit the away side more, in a match which it is fair to say will not live long in the memory.
After the Leicester match, Tottenham Hotspur hosted a struggling West Ham United side. It was a game in which Tottenham Hotspur were the superior team throughout, and had the ball in the net right on the stroke of half time through Heung min-Son, however, the VAR correctly ruled that he was marginally offside and so West Ham were let off the hook going into half-time. Tottenham then did take the lead in the 64th minute thanks to an own goal from Czech midfielder Tomas Soucek from a corner - though this was not without controversy, as Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez hit the ball onto his arm (something which led to West Ham boss David Moyes questioning as to whether the goal should have stood or not) before Soucek put the ball in his own net - and going by the rules of the game, the goal should have been disallowed. The closest West Ham came to scoring was through Jarrod Bowen who hit the post as they searched for an equaliser, though that was unsuccessful, and Harry Kane wrapped up the win 8 minutes from time to give Tottenham a much-needed victory.
