Round-up: The Premier League's weekend action began once again with a match down on the South Coast, as AFC Bournemouth hosted Manchester United in some awful weather conditions. The hosts ultimately prevailed in a 1-0 win thanks to a goal from former Manchester United man Joshua King right on the stroke of half-time, aided by poor defending from United, for whom a run of three successive away wins in all competitions came to an end after a poor performance.

It is said that the best keep on fighting right until the very end and find a way to win even when the going gets tough, and this certainly applied to league leaders Liverpool, who came from behind to win 2-1 away to Aston Villa thanks to two extremely late goals. The hosts took the lead in the 21st minute thanks to Trézéguet's first league goal since signing for the club in the summer, as he volleyed in following a free kick from John McGinn. It seemed as though Liverpool's run of 27 consecutive league matches spanning 10 months unbeaten would come to an end, before Andrew Robertson equalised 3 minutes from time, and then Sadio Mané scored a 94th minute winner as he headed in from a Trent Alexander-Arnold corner. After their 9-0 humiliation at the hands of Leicester City last week, Southampton produced a far more respectable performance as they pushed the reigning champions Manchester City all the way. In fact, it was Southampton who took the lead, thanks to a James Ward-Prowse goal after only 13 minutes. The Southampton defence was proving far more resolute than last week, so much so that it took the champions until the 70th minute to equalise, and they did so thanks to a goal from Sergio Aguero. It seemed like Southampton were going to take a precious point, however, Kyle Walker's 86th minute goal gave the champions the victory. In a clash between two of the three Europa league sides, Wolverhampton Wanderers, who seemingly can neither win nor lose this season, salvaged a deserved point away to Arsenal as Raul Jiménez equalised to cancel out Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's 21st minute strike which had put the hosts in front. Brighton & Hove Albion recorded their third successive home league win (having previously won only one home league game in the whole of 2019), as they won 2-0 against struggling Norwich City thanks to second half goals from Leandro Trossard and Shane Duffy. If Norwich City have found the going tough since their promotion to the Premier League, the same can hardly be said of fellow promoted side Sheffield United, who recorded an impressive 3-0 victory at home to Burnley thanks to a John Lundstram brace followed by a John Fleck goal, in a result which puts the hosts in an impressive sixth place in the league table. Newcastle United opened up a four point gap to the relegation zone, as they recorded a 3-2 win away to an out-of-form and poor West Ham United side. Two goals in the space of ten first half minutes from defenders Ciaran Clark and Federico Fernandez put Newcastle two goals to the good, before Jonjo Shelvey added a third in the 51st minute. West Ham did pull one goal back in the 73rd minute thanks to defender Mathieu Balbuena, before a 90th minute goal from Robert Snodgrass ensured a nervy finish to the game for the away side, however, they held on for their third league victory of the campaign. The action for today concluded with a London derby, as Chelsea travelled to bottom of the table Watford. All it required for Chelsea to take the lead was 5 minutes, thanks to a goal from in-form Tammy Abraham. Despite dominating the first half and applying an enormous amount of pressure on Watford, Chelsea did not double their lead until the 55th minute thanks to Christian Pulisic's goal after a brilliant low cross from Abraham. Watford were then handed a route back into the game with 10 minutes remaining, as they were awarded a penalty for a foul by Jorginho on Gerard Deulofeu in the penalty area, and Deulofeu stepped up to convert the penalty to half the deficit, however, it was not enough for the hosts to salvage a point, who had a last-minute header from goalkeeper Ben Foster saved by counterpart Kepa Arrizabalaga.
