Round-up: There were two matches which concluded the ninth weekend of the Premier League campaign, and one of them was arguably the most keenly-anticipated match on the football calendar, as a struggling Manchester United hosted current league leaders Liverpool. In the end, neither side could be separated as the they played out a slightly lacklustre 1-1 draw. The first half was a half where it must be said that Liverpool were extremely poor and created very little, and in fact it was Manchester United who took the lead in somewhat contentious circumstances. Liverpool players felt that Victor Lindelöf had fouled their attacker Divock Origi, which caused the attacker to lose the ball and then United broke very quickly and it led to Daniel James crossing to Marcus Rashford who could hardly miss from less than 12 yards out. The goal was checked by VAR for the alleged foul by Lindelöf, but it was not clear-cut as to whether it was a foul and the goal was thus allowed to stand. In addition to falling behind, Liverpool then had a goal correctly disallowed by the VAR as Sadio Mané handled the ball in the build-up. After a very poor first half by the league leaders, there was a marked improvement in their second half showing, as Manchester United dropped deeper in a bid to hold on to their extremely slender lead. However, they struggled to break the hosts down, until they finally did so in the 85th minute as Adam Lallana, on as a substitute, got on the end of a cross from left-back Andrew Robertson. In the end, despite the fact that Liverpool continued to apply the pressure in a bid to extend their 100% start to the season, the scoreline remained the same and thus United became the first team this season not to suffer a defeat against Liverpool.

Finally, the action concluded with a Monday night match, as Sheffield United hosted Arsenal, and it is fair to say the result was not what many were expecting. In the end, it was the hosts who triumphed in a fully deserved slender 1-0 win thanks to a goal from striker Lys Mousset in the 30th minute.
