Round-up: The Premier League's weekend action came to a conclusion with 3 matches (one of which was massive) this afternoon. The action began in Manchester as an inconsistent Manchester United side triumphed in a 3-1 victory at home to Brighton & Hove Albion, thanks to goals from Andreas Pereira and Marcus Rashford, which were sandwiched by an own goal from Davy Pröpper. Lewis Dunk was the goalscorer, and despite a relatively comfortable victory for the hosts, it could and should have been an even bigger margin of victory as Rashford missed two glorious chances for the hosts. At the same time Manchester United hosted Brighton, there was a West Midlands derby as Wolverhampton Wanderers hosted Aston Villa. The hosts dominated the match and had several chances, however, a lack of clinical finishing meant that they won by only one goal in a 2-1 victory thanks to goals from Ruben Neves and Raul Jimenéz, whilst Trézéguet bagged a scant consolation for Aston Villa. The weekend action concluded with what was a massive clash between current league leaders Liverpool and reigning champions Manchester City. In the end, it was league leaders Liverpool who prevailed in a 3-1 triumph in a result which could prove decisive in this season's title race. Manchester City began the game on the front foot, however, it was Liverpool who took the lead thanks to a brilliantly hit strike from midfielder Fabinho, although perhaps it is fair to argue that Manchester City should have been awarded a penalty for a handball by Trent Alexander-Arnold. Having said that, Fabinho had plenty of space to hit the shot and should have been closed down. The pattern of the game continued as the champions were seeing more of the ball, however, it was Liverpool who scored the next goal thanks to Mohamed Salah after only 13 minutes. The victory was arguably wrapped up in the 51st minute thanks to a header by Sadio Mané, before Bernardo Silva reduced the deficit for Manchester City in the 78th minute, however, it proved to be a scant consolation as Liverpool saw out the win fairly comfortably. As a result, Liverpool have now opened up a lead of 8 points to second-placed Leicester City, whilst Manchester City have dropped down to fourth place.
