Round-up: In the first of Sunday's matches, Arsenal ensured their season got off to a winning start after winning 1-0 away to Newcastle United in a match which was rather low on quality. After a goalless first-half, it was a mistake by Newcastle's Jetro Willems who had just come on as a substitute which led to the goal, as Ainsley Maitland-Niles picked him off the ball and played a superb pass to Aubameyang who finished brilliantly to give Arsenal an opening day victory, consigning Newcastle and their manager Steve Bruce, who has replaced Rafael Benitez as manager to defeat, one which would not certainly not ease the tension between the fans who are very disappointed with owner Mike Ashley that Benitez's contract was allowed to expire. Another match which kicked off at the same time as Arsenal's, between Leicester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers, who played in the Europa League last Thursday all the way in Armenia (roughly 2,000 miles away), ended goalless - however that was not without VAR intervention as Wolves had a goal from Leander Dendoncker disallowed following a handball by defender Willy Boly in the build-up in an otherwise rather dull match. In the late kick-off, Manchester United made an absolutely brilliant start and trashed Chelsea, winning by 4 goals to nil - although the result was probably better than the performance from Manchester United. Chelsea actually started the game very well, and in the third minute striker Tammy Abraham hit the post. However, in the 17th minute, after referee Anthony Taylor played an advantage after a foul on Andreas Pereira in the build-up, Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma needlessly fouled striker Marcus Rashford in the penalty area and United were gifted a chance to lead from the penalty spot - which Rashford stepped up to take and converted. After a tight and tense first half in which Chelsea hit the post again, this time via Emerson Palmieri, the second half turned out to be a rout as in the 65th minute Anthony Martial doubled United's lead, before less than 2 minutes later Rashford scored again after a brilliant throughball by Paul Pogba which left the Chelsea defence horribly exposed. Then, after coming off the bench to make his debut following his signing from Swansea in the summer, Daniel James scored a well-composed goal in the 81st minute to seal a 4-0 win. United's new signings, Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back and Harry Maguire in the heart of the defence, had outstanding league debuts for the club and were incredibly solid performers. As for Chelsea, youngster Mason Mount who last season was on loan at Derby who were under Frank Lampard's management, performed very well on his Premier League debut in comparison to the rest of his team - many of whom were disappointing, particularly, it must be said, defender Kurt Zouma.
