Round-up: The action in the Premier League continued today with three matches, starting up in the North East - as Newcastle United hosted a high-flying Sheffield United side. In the end, after a goalless first half, the hosts recorded a resounding 3-0 victory. It is fair to say that the hosts were aided significantly by the fact that Sheffield United defender John Egan got sent off early on in the second half as he was shown a second yellow card 5 minutes into the second half, following a first half booking for an altercation with Joelinton - undoubtedly, Egan's sending off was something which would have surely infuriated Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder. Allan Saint-Maximin gave Newcastle the lead in the 55th minute after a sloppy mistake from Sheffield United wing-back Enda Stevens, before Matt Ritchie doubled Newcastle's lead in the 69th minute. The win was then wrapped up in the 78th minute thanks to a goal from goal-shy striker Joelinton, who earlier on in the first half had inexplicably missed a huge chance to give Newcastle the lead. The second game of the day saw struggling Aston Villa host fourth-placed Chelsea. It was a game in which Chelsea dominated throughout, however, despite that, it was Aston Villa who took the lead two minutes before half-time thanks to defender Kortney Hause. The goal was one which came totally against the run of play, and Chelsea's dominance was rewarded in the 60th minute, as Christian Pulisic stepped off the bench to equalise - before striker Olivier Giroud scored just two minutes later which gave Chelsea a valuable win, particularly as all of their rivals for fourth spot (bar Wolves) dropped points this weekend. As for Aston Villa, on the other hand, this result means they remain in the relegation zone, one point behind 17th-placed West Ham United. Finally, this evening's action came to a conclusion with arguably the most keenly anticipated match of the weekend, as Everton hosted Liverpool in the Merseyside derby (albeit behind closed doors). However, it is fair to say that the match was an extremely disappointing and dull affair with little quality - arguably the only key moment came in the second half as Everton hit the post through Tom Davies, as the two sides played out a goalless draw.
