Nigel Pearson is back in management in the Premier League, following his spell in charge of Leicester City in the 2014/15 season, as he tries to save Watford from relegation.

Watford have announced the appointment of Nigel Pearson as the club's new manager until the end of the season, following the sacking of Quique Sanchez Flores last Sunday. However, Hayden Mullins will remain in charge of Watford for their match tomorrow against Crystal Palace, after which Pearson will officially take charge of Watford, who currently lie at the bottom of the table with only 8 points after 15 league matches.

A club statement read: "The Hornets are pleased to confirm the appointment of Nigel Pearson as Head Coach on a contract that runs initially until the end of this season.

The 56-year-old will take up his post after the weekend, with Hornets’ Under-23s coach Hayden Mullins remaining in interim charge for Watford’s Premier League home fixture against Crystal Palace tomorrow (Saturday December 7).

Pearson has a wealth of managerial experience. He drove a successful bid for post-promotion Premier League survival with a run of seven victories in nine games at the end of the 2014/15 campaign, having secured his side a top-flight place during the previous season.

Watford’s Chairman & CEO Scott Duxbury said of the club’s move to appoint Pearson: “Nigel is an impressive coach and comes with all of the experience and success we believe can have a very positive impact on our season.

“It’s been a pleasure spending time listening to the passion with which he talks about the game. His enthusiasm, organisation and motivation will I’m certain prove essential in driving the team forwards and upwards over the coming weeks and months.”

During two spells at the King Power Stadium, the former Derby County and Hull City boss also led the Foxes to a League One title and two Championship Play-Off places as well as that 2013/14 Championship title win.

A former England Under-21 assistant coach, Pearson has also held managerial roles at Southampton and Carlisle – and was most recently employed at Belgian outfit Oud-Heverlee Leuven.

“I’d like to thank Hayden Mullins for stepping in to coach the team on an interim basis. He is fully deserving of everyone’s gratitude,” added Duxbury.

“Tomorrow gives the perfect opportunity for Nigel to be officially introduced to our supporters as Hayden leads the team in the quest for a very important three points.”
